Course Overview

Course Overview
• This course helps you to understand the most productive way to react to a child to encourage positive behaviour.

• The focus is in particular on ways to address the needs of young children, although guidance for older children through to teenage years is discussed.

• We also explore reasons for children displaying challenging behaviour so that we can understand their needs more fully and build a good relationship with the child.

• We therefore look at the basic areas of a child’s development and discuss how these can be encouraged through their play; how we can help them to gain confidence in themselves to promote their own sense of well- being which in turn affects their behaviour.

• We also look at rules and boundaries and the most effective ways to set these limits according to the age and stage of the child’s development.

• Throughout all of our activities in everyday life, appropriate communication plays a key role in minimising challenging behaviour in children.

• We therefore look at ways to communicate with the child and discuss ideas on how we can make more time for them in order to build a positive relationship with the child which is a core element towards managing their behaviour.

• Finally, we recognise that sometimes the realities of everyday life and circumstances can make it difficult for certain parents; we acknowledge this and look at charities and organisations which can give some additional advice and support locally.

• No prior knowledge or experience is required.
