Course Overview
This is an online course. If you want to speak Spanish with confidence, this is the course for you. The classes are relaxed and fun. You will practice how to shop for food, to buy train tickets, to understand announcements and directions. Make restaurant reservations and order food and drink. You will learn about Spanish and Latin American cultures including typical dishes and traditions, and get a solid foundation of the Spanish language. This is a 30 week course, which consists of three 10 week terms.

Course Information:

This course is for absolute beginners. The course aims to provide students with the skills
needed to communicate in everyday situations in a Spanish-speaking environment.
Students will learn to introduce themselves and others. Ask for, understand and give
directions. Enquire about departure and arrival times. Buy tickets and check details.
Understand platform announcements. Describe their town and country. Express likes and
dislikes. Talk about their daily routine and what they do in their free time. Talk about past
events, such as childhood memories. Basic elements of Spanish grammar will be
introduced. Students will acquire listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to a basic
level A1 (CEFR) Common European Framework.

Outline of course content:

Starting from the most basic aspects of the Spanish language, the alphabet, numbers and
pronunciation, students will be listening to and speaking Spanish from the first day. By
the end of the course, students should be familiar with essential aspects of the language
such as word gender and number, the form and use of the present, future and an
introduction of the past tense. Students will have also acquired relevant vocabulary to
interact in Spanish in a basic way. Cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world are
introduced through reading exercises, class activities and online resources.
